As Capcom readies the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, the next main game in the series, another is on the way for phone gaming fans. Monster Hunter Outlanders is a new mobile title that will have players taking down giant beasts in a large open world.

Monster Hunter Outlanders is the latest in a recent trend of games from popular console and PC franchises that make the leap to mobile gaming. While the new title’s announcement comes with only a trailer, its developer, TiMi Studio Group, has the pedigree to back up its ambition, having previously made the shooter Call of Duty Mobile, MOBA Pokemon Unite and recently released strategy Age of Empires Mobile.

Outlanders will feature the same core gameplay of the franchise: hunting and defeating huge monsters of varying sizes, by yourself or in parties of up to four. There’s tool and item crafting, world events, and community and social features one might expect from a mobile game.

From the looks of the trailer, you’ll still get to kit your hunter out in outlandish armor, grapple around areas (as well as launch yourself from a ballista and glide around) and visit different biomes of jungle, desert and mountainous regions. While TiMi hasn’t announced which of the series’ signature weapons will be usable in the game, you can see characters wield a huge sword, long katana-like blade and bow. There isn’t a palico in sight, but we do get a brief glimpse at a potential monkey companion who looks adorable.

While there isn’t a release date yet for Monster Hunter Outlanders, there will be playtests coming for players to try out the new game ahead of its launch. There’s also an official Discord to join for those who want to keep up with the latest news, along with the usual range of social channels on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

Monster Hunter is a long-running franchise with games across multiple generations of consoles, but 2018’s Monster Hunter: World was a massive hit that brought the series to millions of players. We got a chance to play the next main series game Monster Hunter Wilds at Gamescom in August, showcasing new features like a grappling hook and holding multiples weapons, ahead of its planned launch on Feb. 28, 2025.
